In the world of craft, exciting feelings derived from an object will be all the more powerful when combined with intelligent use of material, technique and training. The work of young contemporary artists will be the most compelling in capturing novel, attractive and amazing insights, when they strike out into new modes while retaining established techniques, styles and expressions,

Such work is likely to be characterised by a bold and extreme quality, for example in the mixing of materials, high materiality, obsession with detail, or perhaps surreality stemming from a harmony of the traditional and the contemporary. However, they are also likely to be characterised by an extreme simplicity. Free and easy creativity, if rooted in traditional culture, will uncover truly new artistic expressions.
