ART FRONT GALLERY pleased to announce that we hold special exhibition "Miguel Aquilizan - From Manila with Nippon "at DAIKANYAMA T-SITE anjin café.

Born in Philippines and immigrated to Australia, grown with a strong interest in Japan for its cultural aspect: From his experience Miguel Aquilizan has paid attention to the cultural displacement and ambiguity. The sculpture work series he calls "object collage" highlights the transforming cultural identity by the international traffic of people and things. In this "object collage" Aquilizan puts various natural objects and junk products together and creates sculptures. The material favored especially is the Japanese item he collected at "Japan Surplus" in Manila, which sells the used and junk product of Japanese folk crafts and life miscellaneous goods. Japanese doll, chopsticks, or the rice scoop: such old products of "Japan" which used to be used in Japanese daily life are broken up its original fuction, reassembled and revived as art works by Aquilizan in Philippines, the islands of ethnic and cultural diversity.
