Cai Guo-Qiang at KINARE

Available art works to see after ETAT2015 Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2015 has finished on Sunday 13 September 2015. There are the artworks available to see from Monday 14 September 2015 onward including Cai Guo-Qiang's exhibition at KINARE. Cai Guo-Qiang's exhibition: Penglai / H?rai at Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art/KINARE Cai presents a large-scale dynamic installation laced with humour and ironies. Invoking as a metaphor Penglai/Horai, the legendary island in ancient Chinese mythology where immortals were believed to reside, the installation responds to its theme of “islands”, which have been a source of tension amongst countries in East Asia, drawing attention both within and beyond Japan leading up to the 70th anniversary of the end of the Pacific War this summer. Approximately 1000 objects made of straw, created with the help of children under the guidance of local straw masters, will be laid around the island in the form of a dragon. With its realization engaging people and places spanning national borders, the installation, in short, shows the true worth of his artworks. Chihiro Kabata - Following the Shadow

29st May - 21st June Art Front Gallery is pleased to announce Chihiro Kabata's solo exhibition. Chihiro Kabata, born in 1978 in Fukuoka, was raised in Tokyo and began life as an artist upon finishing a graduate degree at Musashino Art University, in 2004. She went on to attract attention at the Mot Annual in 2011, and at VOCA in 2012. Art Front Gallery has presented her work since 2010, and this will be the 5th exhibition. Kabata has also been very active internationally, having held a solo show in Switzerland and participated in an Artist-in-Residence programme in Singapore. Kabata offers a world of abstract expression produced in oil, but not made with brushes. She works directly with hands or fingers, also using lines made in layers of ballpoint pen. She realises her main concept, which is grasping the invisiable, adding some selected materials, such as mirrors or transparent acryric.

Kaoru Oda : Face to Face

1st May - 24th May (Gallery Closed on 3rd -5th 2015) Art Front Gallery is pleased to announce Kaoru Oda's solo exhibition. Kaoru Oda was born in 1979 and studied metal hammering at Tokyo University of the Arts. She completed her graduate studies there in 2007 and began at once to work as a professional artist. In 2014 she made the most of the large atrium space at the Hiratsuka Museum of Art to present a body of new work which looked like an installation, along with some previously created pieces. It was at once clear that she was an artist to look out for. This is her first solo exhibition at Art Front Gallery, although we have had the happy opportunity to introduce her at extra-gallery events, such as an exhibition at T-Site in Daikanyama. We regard her as someone possessing enormous potential, and she is an artist we definitely want to support from now on. The opening reception start from 18:00 1st May 2015. we are looking forward to seeing you at the reception.
