Kentaro Baba / Primo

Sept. 2 (Tue) - Sept. 28 (Sun)

There are two types in Kentaro Baba’s recent works. One is works oil on canvas, which the artists covers the whole picture plane with layers of bright colors one upon another. The thickness of the canvas is made by these layers of with hidden complementary colors under the final color surface. The works also let us feel clarity and depth like air by the shiny gross finished surface. The other type is acrylic paints on canvas which the artist paints over, polishes or scrapes the net-like undulating undercoating. This type of work let us feel certain volume as an object, rather than a flat painting, with the unexpected meeting with the undercoating and the color. The common characteristic of the two different types of works may be the marks of the artist’s handwork taking a long time to complete each work. Please feel the warmth of human activity and the clarity from the works in the exhibition.
