Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2015 Art Tour Report No.3 - Jimmy Liao

Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale

It is already the second half of the Triennale period this year.
Among more than 300 works in view, our gallery will be introducing those we would like to especially recommend.

Arriving at the station of single-track Iiyama Line, you will find hog-backed hut of Jimmy Liao. There inside, you see the screen illustrating the story of Kiss & Bye, and the original paintings for the book on the walls.

The boy in the story, accompanied by his dog, recalls many memorable scenes with his family in the past, and feels his independence more accurately, becoming more matured than before. The whole work is impressive in this calm environment, whereas some scenes with tunnel refer to the characteristic geology of the Tsumari area.

Jimmy Liao is best-seller artist of illustrated books in Taiwan, and his books have been translated in more than fifteen countries. This time, he applied by himself to art competition at Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennnale and was selected to realize his proposal. It may indicate the popularity of Triennnale in East Asia inspiring artists and audience in wider range.

Triennale passport and guidebooks are also available in our gallery at Daikanyama, Tokyo. Start planning your trip before getting there in Echingo-Tsumari.
