Toya has questioned the various aspects of sculpture after Mono-ha. His works are often interpreted as seeking the possibilities for "non-Westernized" sculpture, and have acquired an international popularity for his originality. He consistently deals with wood, and cuts it with chain-saw to create forest-like sculpture in baroque style.
