New works of Takako Hojo : Prismatic Color 5

Prismatic Color 5 reminds us of sunset in savanna which was created in last summer. Takako Hojo explains her motivation for this work, "It was such a hot summer this year, and I was especially impressed with the deep color of the sky, which necessitated high chromatic value. Naturally the water surface reflected the sky, generating unimaginable color for the first time." The artist observes accurately air and light surrounding the motifs to be depicted, such as sky, cloud or water. In case of oil painting, she composes the plane with each motifs as element to produce certain depth with overlapped layers.

In her career so far, Hojo once tried to represent air fully filled with snow. It was in the occasion where she experienced first heavy snow with her family in Aomori, in the North. The piece was then exhibited VOCA exhibition where curators of the museums all over Japan selected their own favorite artwork. In this piece, the depicted branches of tree are just like blood capillary flowing inside the body of tree. The details inside the tree trunk generates energy.

For Hojo, sky or water is omnipresent and is awaiting artistic representation. She had residency program in Ohara Museum of Art or sketched mountainous landscape in Kitakata, Fukushima where the specific places allow the unique piece, while universal sky and water will be grasped with momentary light or air that the artist tries to capture.
