Kazuto Imura1990 -
Born in Kyoto in 1990. Graduated from the Department of General Science of Art at Kyoto City University of Arts in 2015 and completed the Graduate School of Fine Arts, majoring in Intermedia Art, at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2017.
Focusing on the condition that one's own appearance can only be perceived through reproduction, Imura explores the absence of a being that can recognize both the inner and outer self simultaneously. Through work centered on the theme of mirrors, he investigates this gap. Based on multifaceted research, the practice traverses materials and techniques, incorporating optical devices, non-reflective mirrors, magic mirrors, obsidian, and rotating liquid mirrors. This inquiry traces the evolving relationship between humans and mirrors across a wide range of perspectives--from lookism to contemporary science, and from industrial history to mythology and religious rituals--integrating both scientific and archaeological approaches.
