Kana Kou 1975-2020
Kana Kou 1975-2020
Kou draws the landscape based on gestural or bodily experience of her own. She climbs up the mountains or dives into the sea in order to memorize the sensation together with her visual memory, which she composes in her creation. She was first known to public through her solo exhibit at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery (2011) followed by the one at LIXIL Gallery (2012) where she depicted panoramic mountains. Her installation work "The Secret of Hanasuwajima" was highly appreciated as one of the most impressive works in Setouchi Triennale 2013. Her interest is expanded to three dimensional works, and her recent gallery show presented some reliefs of cactus and of stones local to Shodoshima where she lives now. She changed her name from Yoshida to Kou in 2016.
