Tatsuo Kawaguchi @ Keio University Art Center, Tokyo
2021/04/21
The exhibit “Tatsuo Kawaguchi Non-Respiring” is currently on view at Keio University Art Center.
Under the coronavirus pandemic where ordinary life is limited, the crucial issues such as life and death, non-gravity, education have been inspiring sources of nearly one hundred new artworks created last year. One may be associated with the “Blackboard Class Room” at the No-Butai, Matsudai. We appreciate very much your visit to the solo exhibit of Kawaguchi.

The new exhibition series “Artist Voice” intends to host intimate exhibitions which allow us to intuit an artist’s raw voice and utterances by taking advantage of the distinguishing features of the facility as a small, standalone exhibition space.
The first exhibition will focus on displaying pieces produced by Tatsuo Kawaguchi over the course of the past year, in direct response to life under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic. It will also include related works by the artist from “SHOW-CASE project No. 4 Tatsuo Kawaguchi Gaze Breathing via Branchial Respiration,” an exhibition which was directly impacted by the onset of the pandemic last year. This event will likely present the perfect opportunity to ask questions about the very nature of “the exhibition” by considering the present moment through the lens of one such exhibition.
