After a two-year interval, Art Front Gallery presents another solo show of Chihiro Kabata. Best known for her richly expressive, line-drawn works in ball-point pen, Kabata has also produced installations incorporating materials like water and mirrors. Visitors may recall how our pervious exhibition included Kabata’s installation of a huge, curved iron sheet, like a coil. That work created a tension between release of the coil, and densely drawn lines. The 2015 exhibition was about exploring the absence of objects, whose shadows were traced on paper.

Not having exhibited actively during the past two years, Kabata has instead been engaged on another quest. She seeks how to include the unseen in her work. Our new exhibition will feature an installation made from a huge sphere, looking ready to roll away. Kabata also fills the exhibition space with drawings, accumulated like pages of a diary kept during the last two years. As we follow this artist’s journey along a direction not yet decided, we accompany her towards some Unknown Planet.
