In front of Bunpei Kado's works, it is first of all the experience of weight and lightness that one experiences. Nothing is more obvious to understand the weight of things than to try to make them fly, nothing is more striking to the mind than to laugh to understand the seriousness of what surrounds us. Thus Bunpei Kado plays the tension between gravity and lightness, with a delicate poetry. To understand the harmfulness of cars and bombs, Bunpei Kado inserts them into a levitation system that makes them airy and light in a combination of lyrical and serious false-connection all at once. Trying to make things fly away is a way to appreciate their weight, their resistance, their heaviness, their negativity. It is precisely by pretending to be above ground that with a poetic and critical distance, he questions our world and our society, with the eyes of a "definitive dreamer" (André Breton)

In the same way, with its barrels of oil / chocolate fontain, Bunpei Kado combines strong symbol of the countries, economic power, evocation of the war for the energies, the pollution and the catastrophic scenarios which follow from it, with the regressive pleasure of children of a chocolate given in unlimited quantity. A way to shift the gaze, to introduce gluttony and lightness in the face of a black statement of the world. In addition, the stereotyped and manufactured character of the objects contrasts with the art of DIY and the hand-made of the artist. Again, this creates a tension, a system of gauge between dehumanized industrial world and a personal, humanized and warm look on the world. His objects are a system of balance and equilibration between the forces of self-appropriation by a dangerous capitalist world and the poetic reveries by the subjective creativity of the human eye.

With Bunpei Kado, the world is suspended, in the double sense of suspense : it is at the same time suspended, in levitation, it has lost its gravity and its seriousness to be only a poetic evocation out of ground; and paradoxically, in a game of weight and balance, one measures all the more its fragility, its precariousness. The world is in suspense, that is to say in danger, threatened, its equilibrium is precarious, and its announced fall is looming.

The art of connection and collage, which at the same time poeticizes the world and puts it into question, properly speaking, makes it an enigma, is obviously political and critical. Recall that the ambition of the surrealists was to "transform the world", to "change life", by linking in an indissociable way - without ever wanting to confuse them - the poetic revolution and the political revolution. Using the dialectic between aesthetics and politics, the incrustation and the heterogeneous become a new optical instrument to see the world: just as the microscope serves to see the infinitely small invisible to the naked eye, just as the telescope allows to see the infinitely distant also invisible, the false-connection, the collage, the association between the lightness and the gravity, the humor and the seriousness used by Bunpei Kado reveal the invisible inconsistencies and absurdities of our contemporary world.

Suspended World :
