Lake Takataki, on the banks of which the Ichihara Lakeside Museum stands. At the bottom of the lake lies the memory of a village of 110 houses that sank with the construction of the dam. The Yoro River, which runs through Ichihara City from north to south and empties into Tokyo Bay, has been affectionately known as “mother river," and at times has caused tremendous damage as a "raging river," but it has also created rich soil, unique scenery, and lifestyle culture.
This exhibition delves into the history, geography, and folk customs of the area surrounding the Yoro River and Lake Takataki, and using the land as a source of inspiration, eight artists in a variety of media, including painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation, and performance, will create "site-specific" works in spaces inside and outside the museum.
The exhibition will feature site-specific works by eight artists in a variety of media, including painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation, and performance, using the land as a single source of inspiration. Invisible landscapes will emerge from the chemical reaction between the artists' imagination and the power of the land, and a new story will begin.
