Village Area Exhibition
Set in an abandoned fishing village that once teemed with life, this exhibition explores the "resonance of memory" that can be felt if one listens closely. The theme, "Echo Location," signifies the act of perceiving the overlapping voices of the past and present within the space. Traces of former residents' lives and the presence of visitors resonate to transform the abandoned houses into "resonating bodies" that transcend mere physical space.
Artists use sound, light, installations, and videos to materialize these "echoes," evoking invisible sounds and presences. Every element of the abandoned houses, from walls and floors to windows, becomes part of the art, making visitors active participants who create echoes within the space. Each room breathes with an absent presence, allowing visitors to feel the past's life sounds or fragments of conversation.
"Echo Location" is a dialogue with memories hidden in forgotten places, inviting visitors to uncover their echoes. These resonances breathe new life into invisible histories and lost voices, tracing a path toward the future.

Main Exhibits:

Taira Ichikawa: Baobab Plantation
Inspired by the iconic "upside-down tree" from *The Little Prince*, this work symbolizes unconventional perspectives, encouraging playful ways of viewing the world.

Bunpei Kado: Artificial Lake
Addressing climate change and rising sea levels, this piece features a boat suspended high above and a laser-created artificial water surface. It warns of a future where environmental neglect leads to submerged lands, highlighting the urgency of maintaining nature's balance.

Ai Ohshima: girls throwing pillows
Through white clay figures depicting life stages, this piece questions the essence of human existence.Ai Ohshima: About the Beautiful Island
This work intertwines Taiwan's history with the lives of its people, bringing forth a timeless "face" that reflects the overlapping layers of the past and present.

Aoyama Yume: Bat Monster
Drawing inspiration from Japanese special effects and mythology, this piece visualizes the COVID-19 virus as a menacing creature, embodying humanity's resilience and hope for the future.
Artist Hotel
At the Kenting Long Beach Hotel in Haikou, Pingtung, a unique collaboration between local hospitality and international artists transforms rooms into immersive art installations. After the art festival period, visitors can stay in these rooms, engaging deeply with the art and nature.

Bunpei Kado: Climbing and Drifting
Bunpei Kado is known for creating unique visual dialogues within existing spaces by utilizing everyday objects and imagination. This exhibition boldly incorporates his Bouldering series, with colorful climbing holds scattered across walls and ceilings, crafting a space that allows visitors to physically and visually experience the concept of "climbing." This series, a hallmark of his global work, transforms a room in the Kenting Long Beach Hotel into a fusion of sports, art, daily life, and the vast natural beauty of Pingtung, evoking a sense of playful adventure.
The bathroom, contrastingly, explores the theme of "horizons," presenting an ethereal space emphasizing the horizon line. Floating boats and islands evoke the coastal setting of Pingtung's Haikou area, enveloping visitors in a serene and mystical sensation of "drifting." This dual structure of "climbing" and "drifting" tells a unique spatial narrative, blending visual stimulation with a call to nature’s grandeur and human curiosity.

Eko Nugroho: SPACE OF LOVE, CARE AND SHARE
Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho presents an installation themed around love and hope, titled SPACE OF LOVE, CARE AND SHARE Designed to create a "positive atmosphere" and "comforting ambiance," this work conveys a message of empowerment through love, compassion, and sharing. The walls feature towering imagery symbolizing strength, creating a visually impactful space.
Eko encourages viewers to transcend the limits of reality through imagination, stepping into a realm of infinite possibilities. This "voyage" speaks to overcoming daily challenges with kindness and shared humanity. Inspired by "outer space imagination," fantastical characters cover the walls, immersing the space in Eko's signature fantasy world. As Haikou takes strides toward internationalization, this piece symbolizes forward movement, expressing the potential of love and hope as positive forces, leaving visitors with an uplifting message.

Yume Aoyama: Balen's Tale: The Hundred-Paced Snake and the Chief's Daughter
Yume Aoyama’s work features a fantastical world rooted in local stories and traditions. This piece draws on the Lukai people's folklore, "Balen’s Tale," presenting the sacred hundred-paced snake as a gracefully coiling figure symbolizing village guardianship and the power of nature. Alongside it, Balen, the proud daughter of the Lukai chief, stands as a testament to the courage and respect embedded in the tale.
By weaving Lukai sacred myths with her unique artistic vision, Aoyama creates a space honoring local history and the natural world. Her bold colors and symbolic imagery provide visitors with the sense of "walking within a story," inspiring a renewed appreciation for coexistence with nature.
The Artist Rooms at the Kenting Long Beach Hotel represent an innovative experiment within the Luo Shan Feng Arts Festival, anticipated to become a new landmark in Pingtung's Haikou area. After the exhibition concludes, visitors will have the unique opportunity to stay within the artworks themselves, transforming art from a temporary experience into an integral part of daily life to be deeply appreciated.
This post-exhibition feature allows guests to engage in dialogue with the artworks, offering a special experience of living alongside art. It is expected to become a distinctive attraction in Pingtung, blending creative expression with hospitality in a way that fosters a profound connection between visitors, art, and the environment.

Oscar Oiwa: Giant Oil Octopus & Baby Octopus
Oscar Oiwa expands upon his 1999 work, Aquarium, by bringing the imagined aquatic creature "Oil Octopus" to life as a giant installation. The towering Oil Octopus leads its young amidst the wind at the beach, symbolizing the richness of marine ecosystems and the warmth of familial bonds. Simultaneously, it prompts reflection on protecting the ocean and caring for the environment.
The exhibition runs until March 2, don’t miss the opportunity to visit!
